HIRE ME!

I am still out of a job! I can't believe that the non-profit field (notoriously underpaid and unappreciated) has so much competition right now! I just hope that I find something soon before I start my own organic gardening/maple syrup farm with homemade pies and woodcarving. I guess the good news in all this is that I have learned a lot of old-timey skills in my time off and I have had a lot of time for my short stories and poetry. The bad news, of course, is that my bank statements have become negative and I don't know how to sing any folk songs about it.

My friend Karen shared a sad story with me that I thought I'd post here, just because we all find ourselves missing the forest for the trees sometimes. She just got back from the Peace Corps in Jamaica and all her friends have been calling to meet with her. She has been busy unpacking and working with her family, so she's been slow to respond to some of them. One girl, with whom she'd been playing phone tag for a week, died in a car accident after leaving Karen a message. The moral of the story, of course, is that you should always pass on work/tasks when you have the opportunity to meet with a friend. When you think about it, what is this life, except a chance for us to bond with humanity; live, love and learn about our common future. Of course, we all let friends get lost and pass up opportunities with friends for chances to make money or advance our personal lives, but we really ought to strive to make and keep as many friends as we can. That's what makes this life worth living, isn't it? It's definitely not the money and cars and houses because when you have no one to share those things with, they all become pointless objects that weigh down your soul.

That said, friends of mine, let's stay in touch.
