NYR again

Ha! Back again for another attempt at journaling. I may do better this time, though I'll be keeping my secrets offline.

Resurfacing--at least momentarily

Hello world. I see it has been over 3 years since I entered a post here. Shoddy blogmanship, clearly. But I have 10 minutes while my pie is baking, so I thought I'd add a little note.

Since writing, I've gotten married, moved to Wisconsin, gotten promoted, adopted a dog, had a baby boy and bought two houses. Which explains why I haven't had time to write silly notes on here. But as I've created a NYR to resume my journalling, I figure this may count.

But, my son has decided that it is time to eat RIGHT NOW, so I will be signing off before saying anything, really. I did, however, make a new friend recently and here's her blog: fluffybitsotorpor.blogspot.com

and then it was August already

Seriously. Where did this summer go? I have been hella busy this summer and it's just not slowing down. Last week, I spent several days working on a crew that removed 2 dams by hand with pry bars, gas powered jackhammers and shovels. It was awesome, but very tiring. My arms were twitching so much in the evenings that I couldn't brush my hair.

What else have I been up to? Wedding planning. Lots of it. So much for the idea that a "simple" wedding would be easy to plan.

I'm reading "In Defense of Food" right now and I'm enjoying the history of nutrition science, though it does make me wonder how healthy my diet really is. I feel the need to eat sticks and weeds now. Maybe a handful of dirt, too.

I'm getting married, I think

So I'm planning a wedding. Specifically, my wedding. It is a very surreal experience because it involves so much planning for other people on a day that is really supposed to be about you, your partner, and the life commitment you are making. I'm having a hard time balancing what I think I would like to have personally with what I know that we need to do in order to make sure our families are satisfied. I keep hoping that I'm going to have a fantastic vision pop in to my head one of these days...

poems

I am going to write more poems. I used to write loads of poems and even though they weren't great, I felt good about them. Now I need that creative outlet more than ever, with stress from work taking its toll. I also need to widen my vocabulary to words beyond sustainable, restoration, dynamic, effective, implementation and trackhoe. Actually, I still really like trackhoe. See how cool they are?

dance like a crazy

I have been working like a crazy go crazy all week. I had a list of 5 things (well, really 8 things) to get done this week and I had to blow myself apart to get them all done. How is it so hard to get 8 things done? What kind of black hole does work time get sucked into? I can remember working in a research laboratory and looking at the clock every 20 minutes and now I look at the clock and it's mid-afternoon and I worked through lunch again. Come on!

In non-work related news, Andrew & I had an excellent trip to Arizona, where we saw all kinds of awesome birds and we planted cactus plants. It was nice to get charged up on Vitamin D and vacation sleep so I could get through the last of PA's very dreary winter (ever heard of a radical notion of actually SNOWING in winter)? I baked a killer cake for Andrew's birthday--aahhh! Not that kind of killer, but it WAS flavored orange, so just watch yourself.

Anyway, that's the local news for the day. It's time for me to go play gerbil at the local fitness facility.

Work work work work

Being an adult is lame. Working too much is not cool, people.
